Description

This two-day series will equip participants with the skills necessary to administer Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) services in general settings. Participants will be able to administer/score/interpret screenings for the assessment of substance use and misuse. Motivational Interviewing (MI), as the foundation of SBIRT, will be reviewed in-depth. It is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. MI is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring a person’s reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.
