As directed by Act 160 of 2024, OSUS has approved the S.C. Alliance for Recovery Residences (SCARR) to develop and administer a voluntary certification program for organizations operating recovery houses. A list of recovery houses certified by SCARR can be found at https://scarronline.org/certified-listings/.
The procedure for involuntary commitments can be found in the South Carolina Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commitment Statute, which is located in Chapter 52 of Title 44 of the South Carolina Code of Laws. OSUS does not administer the involuntary commitment procedure, but if you have a family member or friend that you believe requires immediate treatment for an alcohol or substance use disorder, you can contact their local Community Mental Health Center to initiate the involuntary commitment process. A list of Community Mental Health Centers can be found on the Office of Mental Health’s website.
